The Amazon River

The Amazon river in South America is the largest river by discharge of water in the world, and according to some experts, the longest in length.

The headwaters of the Apurimac river on Nevado Mismi had been considered for nearly a century as the Amazon's most distant source until a 2014 study found it to be the Cordillera Rumi Cruz at the headwaters of the Mantaro river in Peru. The Mantaro and Apurimac confluence, and with other tributaries from the Ucayali, which in turn confluences with the river Maranon upstream of lquitos Peru, to form what countries other than Brazil consider to be the main stem of the Amazon. Brazilians call this section of the river the Solimoes above its confluence with the Rio Negro to form what Brazilians call the Amazon at the Meeting of waters at Manaus, the river's largest city. At an average discharge of about 209,000 cubic metres per second. The Amazon represents 20% of the global riverine discharge to the ocean. The Amazon basin is the largest drainage basin in the world, with an area of approximately 7,050,000 square kilometres. The portion of the river's drainage basin in Brazil alone is larger than any other river's basin. The Amazon enters Brazil with only one-fifth of the flow it finally discharges into the Atlantic ocean, yet already has a greater flow at this point than the discharge of any other river. 

Avukana Buddha statue

The Avukana statue is a standing statue of the Buddha near Kekirawa in North Central Sri Lanka. The statue, which has a height of more than 40 feet (12 m), was carved out of a large granite rock face during the 5th century. It depicts a variation of the Abhaya mudra, and the closely worn robe is elaborately carved. Constructed during the reign of Dhatusena, it may have been made as a result of a competition between a master and a pupil. The Avukana statue is one of the best examples of a standing statue constructed in ancient Sri Lanka. It is now a popular tourist attraction

        හෝටන් තැන්න ජාතික උද්‍යානය,  ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මධ්‍යම කදුකරයේ පිහිටි ආරක්‍ෂක ප්‍රදේශ වන අතර කදුකර තෘණ භූමි හා මීදුම් සහිත වේ.මීටර් 2,100-2,300 (අඩි 6,900-7,500) උසකදී මේ සානුව ජෛව විවිධත්වය හා මෙහි දක්නට ලැබෙන බොහෝ විශේෂ, කලාපයට ආවේණික වේ.මෙම කලාපය1988 දී ජාතික උද්‍යානයක් ලෙස නම් කරන ලදී.මෙය ජනප්‍රිය සංචාරක ස්ථානයක් වන අතර, කිලෝමීටර 8 ක් පමණ (5.0 සැත) ඔහිය පිහිටා ඇත, 6 කිලෝමීටර් (3.7 සැත) ලෝකප්‍රසිද්ධ ඔහිය බෑවුම ඩොන්ඩ්‍රා ප්‍රපාතය කිලෝ මීටර් 32 (20 සැත) නුවරඑළියේ සිට පිහිටා ඇත.
           හෝටන් තැන්න කියන්නේ ප්‍රධාන ගංගා තුනක ආරම්භයක් මහවැලි, කැළණි, සහ වලවේ වේ.මෙය මහ එලිය තැන්න ලෙසද හදුන්වනු ලැබේ.නැවත බලංගොඩ සංස්කෘතිය දිවෙන ශිලා මෙවලම් මෙම ස්ථානවල ලැබී ඇත.තැනිතලා 'වෘක්ෂලතා සහිත තෘණ බිම්, සහ බොහෝ ආවේණික, කාෂ්ඨීය ශාක ඇතුළත් වේ.ක්ෂීරපායී සතුන් වන,ශ්‍රි ලංකාවට ආවේණික වූ සම්බාර්   මුවන් රන්චු වශයෙන් දැක ගත හැක.තවද මෙය වැදගත් කුරුළු විශේෂ වලින්ද,ශ්‍රි ලංකාවට අවේණික මෙන්ම මෙම තැන්නට සීමා වූ කුරුළු විශේෂ වලින්ද සමන්විත වේ.මෙම වනාන්තරයේ තිබෙන ප්‍රධාන තර්ජනයක් වන්නේ මෙම ශාක වලට වැළදි තිබෙන "dieback" රෝගයයි.එනම් ශාක කිසිදු පැහැදිලි හේතුවකින් තොරව මියයෑමයි.ලෝකාන්තය සහ බේකර් ඇල්ල  සංචාරකයන්ගේ  මහත් ආකර්ෂණයට පාත්‍ර වී ඇති ස්ථාන වේ.

National flower of Sri lanka

        Do most of Sri Lankans know what the national flower of Sri Lanka is? It is Blue Lily for which blue lotus, star lotus and blue star water lily are said. This native place goes to southern and eastern parts of Asia. 
                 This aquatic plant is submerged with roots and stems as well as parts of the leaves which are round and green on top. This waterlily has beautiful colour variations which are in white, purple and mauve etc. The flower has four or five sepals and 13-15 petals that have an angular appearance makes the flower look star-shaped from above. 
                  In Sri Lanka, This plant usually grows in ponds, lakes and natural wetlands. This beautiful aquatic flower has been mentioned in Sanskrit, Pali, and Sinhala literary since ancient times under the names Kuuvalaya, indhiwara as a symbol of virtue, discipline and purity. Buddhist lore in Sri Lanka claims that this flower was one of the 108 auspicious signs found on price Siddhartha's footprint. It is said that when the Buddha passed away, lotus flowers blossomed everywhere he had walked in his lifetime.
